Dermaplaning

Dermaplaning in Christchurch

Smooth, Bright & Instantly Refreshed Skin

Dermaplaning treatment gently removes built-up dead skin cells and fine facial hair (often known as peach fuzz) to reveal smoother, brighter, and healthier-looking skin.

This non-invasive exfoliation treatment helps improve the appearance of skin texture, leaving your complexion feeling soft, fresh, and radiant with little to no downtime. It is a popular choice for clients who want smoother skin, a natural glow, or a flawless base for makeup application.

Whether you are preparing for a special event or simply want to maintain a refreshed complexion, dermaplaning can be a beautiful addition to your skincare routine.

What is Dermaplaning

Dermaplaning is an efficient and safe method of exfoliation.

Dermaplaning is a professional exfoliation treatment performed using a sterile, single-use disposable surgical blade. The treatment gently removes the outer layer of dead skin cells and fine facial hair (peach fuzz) from the surface of the skin.

Unlike harsh scrubs, dermaplaning provides a precise and controlled exfoliation, helping to reveal smoother and more refined-looking skin while remaining comfortable and gentle for most skin types.

At Refined Skin And Beauty, a new disposable surgical blade is used for every client to maintain high standards of hygiene, safety, and professional care.

Benefits of Dermaplaning

Dermaplaning can help to:

• Remove built-up dead skin cells from the skin surface
• Improve the appearance of uneven skin texture
• Create a brighter and more radiant-looking complexion
• Remove fine facial hair for softer-feeling skin
• Help makeup apply more smoothly and evenly
• Allow skincare products to absorb more effectively
• Leave your skin looking fresh, polished, and glowing

Who Is Dermaplaning Suitable For?

Dermaplaning may be suitable for clients who:

• Have dry, dull, or tired-looking skin
• Notice rough or uneven skin texture
• Want smoother skin and a more refined complexion
• Have fine facial hair they would like removed
• Want a gentle exfoliation treatment with minimal downtime
• Are preparing for a wedding, photoshoot, holiday, or special occasion

Who Is Not Suitable for Dermaplaning?

While dermaplaning is suitable for many skin types, it may not be recommended if you currently have:

• Active acne breakouts, especially inflamed or painful acne
• Open wounds, cuts, or broken skin
• Active cold sores or skin infections
• Sunburned, irritated, or highly sensitive skin
• Severe skin irritation or an active skin flare-up
• Recently undergone certain resurfacing treatments such as strong chemical peels or laser treatments
• Recently used strong exfoliating products, prescription retinoids, or high-strength acids that may leave the skin more sensitive

When Is a Good Time to Have Dermaplaning?

Dermaplaning is a wonderful treatment any time you want your skin to look fresh, smooth, and radiant. It is especially popular before:

  • Weddings and special events

  • Professional photoshoots

  • Holidays and celebrations

  • Makeup appointments

  • Important occasions when you want your skin to look its best

It is also an excellent treatment to include as part of your regular salon skincare routine. Depending on your skin type and goals, many clients choose to have dermaplaning every 4–6 weeks to help maintain a smooth, bright, and refreshed-looking complexion.

Will My Facial Hair Grow Back Thicker?

No.
Dermaplaning does not make facial hair grow back thicker, darker, or faster.

Dermaplaning only removes the hair at the surface of the skin and does not affect the hair follicle, which is responsible for how the hair grows. Because the follicle remains unchanged, the hair will continue to grow back with the same natural texture, colour, and growth pattern as before.

When the hair first grows back, some people may notice that it feels slightly different because the tip of the hair has been cut straight across. However, this is only a temporary sensation and does not mean the hair has become thicker or coarser.

This is one of the most common concerns about dermaplaning, and you can feel confident that the treatment will not change the way your facial hair naturally grows.

Dermaplaning Aftercare

To maintain your results and support your skin after treatment, we recommend:

• Apply SPF daily and protect your skin from direct sun exposure
• Keep your skin hydrated with gentle moisturising products
• Avoid strong exfoliants, retinol, and active acids for several days unless advised otherwise
• Avoid excessive heat, sauna, and direct sun exposure immediately after treatment
• Use gentle skincare products while your skin is adjusting

Most clients can return to their normal activities immediately after treatment. Some temporary redness may occur and usually settles quickly.
